On Friday, April 5 and Saturday April 6, two Bray-Doyle students will be traveling to Norman to compete at the University of Oklahoma for the state speech and drama competition.

Bray-Doyle Seniors, Sara Eldridge and Katie Hampton will be competing with a humorous duet over anger management.

“We thought that going and competing to win state would be fun,” Eldridge said. “One of the big reasons we wanted to do it is because of demo day in Lawton. We want to go and win state so we could come back and perform, but then realized we can’t because we’re seniors and won’t be going to school here next year.”

The duet is about anger management between two famous William Shakespeare characters with Juliet from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and Ophelia from Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

“We wanted to do something together,” Hampton said. “We both like working together and thought this would be a good thing to do together.”

Hampton and Eldridge have been working on their duet a long time, and while the two seniors enjoy working together, they said competing at Southwestern Oklahoma State University to qualify for state was a hard task.

“We were both sick that day,” Eldridge said. “That was the most difficult part about it was being sick the entire time.”

Speech and Drama teacher Beth Hough said she’s proud of her two seniors and how hard they have worked over the years.

“This is the first year that we’ve gone to competition even though these two girls have been wanting to go for a couple of years,” Hough said. “They’ve been working so hard to perfect these characters and I think they’re doing an amazing job. They’ve been in Speech and Drama class for four years and I will certainly miss them next year.”
