The Bray-Doyle had a lot of highlights this season from making the playoffs for the first time in 14 years, to Mark Kilbourn making All-State. One of the biggest accomplishments though wasn’t on the football field, but in the classroom. The Bray-Doyle football team was named the Class B Academic State Champions for the first time in school history. The team had a 3.67 grade point average overall.

“This is a huge deal for our school and our community,” head football coach Marcus Knight said. “Bray has been here over 70 years, and this is the first time that we’ve ever won state.”

On Tuesday, March 26, members of the football team traveled to Oklahoma City to be recognized at the Oklahoma State Capitol for their academic accomplishment.

Knight said he’s proud of each of his players but contributes a big part of their success to the upperclassmen.

“We had eight seniors who all provided great leadership,” Knight said. “Those eight were exceptional players and students and did a really great job of leading this team.”

Knight also added the Bray-Doyle faculty deserved credit for helping his players achieve success.

“The teachers here at Bray are some really great teachers,” Knight said. “They care about these kids succeeding not only in athletics, but after they graduate. They want the same things that any teacher wants and that is for these kids to leave high school and go on to becoming successful in life.”

With making playoffs and winning the Academic State title, Knight said expectations remain high for the future.

“Of course, expectations are still high,” Knight said. “We are hoping to next year make another run in playoffs and win one game in post season.”
