A few of the Bray-Doyle Agriculture students participated in a new event at the Stephens County Jr. Livestock Show this year.  Aundrea and Aubrey Bratcher, Braiden Poston Lacey Bingham, Tyler and Ethan Bandy, all took part in the livestock show’s new Stephens County Gold Star Classic, the event had FFA members helping children with special needs how to show livestock.

FFA sponsor Danny Fisher said he was proud of his students for helping, and it was important for the kids to help with the Gold Star Classic.

“It’s a great way to give some of these kids that might not have an opportunity to show, a way for them to be involved,” Fisher said. “This is an event that’s all for them and it’s great that not just our kids, but all the kids in the county help and be a part of it.”

Poston said she enjoyed the experience of helping with the program and learning about her students she got to work with.

“I thought it was a good thing to do and I always like helping,” Poston said. “The best part was talking to them and hearing their stories and just making friendships with the other students.”

Tyler Bandy said helping with the Goldstar event had a personal meaning to him.

“It’s really important to me because I was one of those students that wasn’t supposed to be able to walk or talk,” Tyler said. “It just warms my heart to help these kids and see the smiles on their faces.”

Bingham also liked helping the students showing their animals.

“It was important to me because I like helping kids,” Bingham said. “I worked with a kid named Daniel and he was by far my a favorite because he was so sweet and caring, and he really was a lot of fun to work with.”
