FCCLA gears up for blood drive

On Monday, September 23, Bray-Doyle FCCLA will hold a blood drive from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the high school library. FCCLA adviser Bayli Lucas hopes for the best for the year’s first of three blood drives.

“ I’m hoping to get all 25 people to donate blood,” Lucas said. “We usually have a pretty good turnout during our first blood drives of the year.”

For someone to donate, they must meet specific qualifications. To donate whole blood, one must be healthy and feeling well. They must be at least 16 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. To make a Power Red Donation or a two-unit donation. Male donors must be at least 17 years old and at least 5’1” tall and weigh at least 130 pounds. Female donors must be at least 19 years old, 5’5”, and weigh at least 150 pounds. Platelet donors must be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Finally, for someone to give plasma, they must have type AB blood, at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds.

Jordyn Harrison is a junior at Bray Doyle High School. She's in cheer, journalism, and the yearbook class. This is her first year in journalism and her second year in yearbook. She loves photography, drawing, and hanging out with friends. She also loves being in school and socializing with friends and teachers. She always has a smile on her face and tries to give a smile to everyone she can. She loves to hang out with her best friends Nicole Keck and Kailynn Cox. This being Harrison’s junior year of high school, she is still trying to figure out what she wants to do after she graduates. “ I don't know what I want to do yet after high school,” Harrison said. “I’m hoping to go to college and figure it out.”

Nicole Keck is a student at Bray-doyle High School. She plays in the band as a clarinet player and is one of the four in her class. She makes average A-B grades on report cards with an occasional C, though she tries to keep it up. Last year, she had a 4.0 grade level. She usually browses YouTube during her free time, though it sometimes interferes with her studies. This might sometimes cause her problems, but she always manages to do decently during her studies. “I usually watch animation memes or anything else entertaining I can find, Keck said. “ Though recently, it's been more difficult to find stuff I haven't already watched, which has led to me rewatching videos.” Keck plans to someday get her own place and live independently. She currently is figuing out how to get a job and what she wants to do. Until then she is looking to live the simple life. “I don’t want anything extravagant,” Keck said. “Anything decent will do. I’m ok with having a decent and minimalistic style of living.”
