Mrs. Vickie Carden’s Parent and Child Development class were able to have a view into parenthood when they made flour babies to teach them what it would be like taking care of a baby as a single parent.

“We have done this project  a number of years now in parent and child development,” Carden said. “It’s a good project to give these kids an idea of what it is like taking care of of a child.”

During the project students would have several different tasks to take care of that they would encounter when having a baby of their own.

“One of the things I actually liked was waking up early in the morning to take a picture with my baby and having to send it to Mrs. Carden,” Parent and Child development student Ally Pineira said. “I really enjoyed this project and learning about what it takes to take care of a baby.”

Hannah Cox said she enjoyed just the simplest of thing of the project.

“I just liked making my flour baby and giving him a name,” Cox said. “ “We also had to hold them and keep a journal for them.”

The students also saw some negatives to the project. Rylie Pass said it was hard taking care of her baby during basketball practice.

“We had to take our babies with us everywhere we went and so we had to find a babysitter during practice,” Pass said. “Nobody was allowed to touch or hold our babies unless they had to. They also had to sanitize their hands before holding them so our babies wouldn’t get sick.”
