Mooo-ving into show season
B-D Ag students host local show and clinic.
February 9, 2019
On Saturday, February 9 at 3 p.m. the Bray-Doyle Ag Booster Club will hold a clinic for anyone interested in showing animals at the ag building. Following the clinic will begin the 2019 local livestock show with the chicken and rabbit show. Sunday, February 10, the show will continue at 11 a.m. with sheep and goats and then finish with cows and pigs. There will also be a $5 bean dinner on Saturday and a hamburger feed on Sunday.
“This is just a place for our community to get together and show support for our ag students,” Bray-Doyle FFA sponsor Danny Fisher said. “There will be about 30 people showing livestock and there will be a couple hundred people that show up and show their support.”
Fisher said having the clinic is important for the younger students to help them prepare and show them what to expect.
“This is really for the kids that might be interested in showing and that haven’t really had the chance to come out,” Fisher said. “They get a chance to see what it’s like and maybe the following year they will get a project to show at the stock show.”
Bray-Doyle junior Braiden Poston said she is looking forward to the local show and the clinic to help the younger students.
“On Saturday there is going to be a lot of competition and that there is gonna be a lot of kids that are gonna need help learning how to show,” Poston said. “I like to show with the younger kids and help them along the way. I used to be their shoes and remember how nervous I was.”
Poston will be showing her cattle on Sunday, an animal that she likes showing most.
“I really prefer showing cows more than any other animal,” Poston said. “My sisters show cows too which makes it really great to help each other through it all.”
Following the local show, the students will prepare for the county sale next which will be February 18-23 at the Stephens County Fairgrounds.
