Change is good for Mrs. Booth

Change is sometimes scary but can be good. Socrates said “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new” Bray-Doyle’s new third grade teacher Kayce Booth said that it was time to make a change from being at her previou school Will Rogers Pre-K Center in Duncan.
“We (Coach and Mrs Booth) felt like it was time to leave and make a change,” she said. “Coming out to Bray-Doyle was a change in the right direction.”
Coach Booth and Mrs. Booth did not come to Bray-Doyle alone, they also brought their three children Tully who is a Freshman, Darby who is in the seventh grade, and Atticus who is a fifth grader. Moving from a much larger school district to a smaller district is a major change, but Mrs. Booth said it is nice working closer to her husband and seeing her kids more often.
“We used to work across town from each other,” she said “Now we work across the parking lot from each other. I like it more now, because I see him and the kids more, I like having them around.”
Teaching at a smaller district isn’t the only change Mrs. Booth had to make as she moved up from teaching Pre-K students to now teaching third graders. Mrs Booth said she is excited for the challenge ahead from her new students.
“Teaching new students in a new grade and new school is challenging,” she said. “There are some things I’m teaching that I may not have taught before. They are learning though and I’m learning, so we are learning together. I love teaching the third graders though because it is fun and they laugh at my jokes.”
Mrs. Booth did not take the ordinary way of becoming a teacher like other do, she is alternatively certified with a degree in Interior Design. She said while she enjoyed that, she loves teaching so much more.
“Before I became a teacher I did computer work with AUTOCAD,” she said. “I did floor plans and blueprints for buildings. It was fun, but I like moving around and not just sitting at a computer all day.Teaching my students I get to move around and work with them and help them learn.”
