Journalism class to inform the masses
September 11, 2018
Keeping everyone informed is always important and that is what the Bray-Doyle Journalism class is doing this year. This is the second year for the class, and Journalism teacher Mr. Matt Tillson said he is excited for what is in store for this year.
“This year we have moved from broadcast journalism to print,” Tillson said. “We did some fun stuff with broadcast last year, but we were missing some of the basics. By doing print this year we focus more on the basics of conducting interviews and writing a news story.”
Tillson said getting back to basics will not just be a solo effort as the class will have help from The Marlow Review.
“The Marlow Review was generous enough this year to let us use a half page of their paper for us to fill,” Tillson said. “It’s great for the local paper to help support our class and get their hard work noticed.”
The Marlow Review isn’t the only way the public will be able to see what is going on at Bray-Doyle schools, as they have online media as well.
“We have our online newspaper this year (www.bddonkeyfeed.com),” Tillson said. “We also have a Facebook page with Bray-Doyle Donkey Feed.”
Tillson is excited for the future with of his class and pleased with the foundation that his current and former students have made. With three returning students this year, he said the leadership has been fantastic.
“This year Macalah Turner, Annabelle Johnson and Maddie Stringfellow are my Journalism II students,” Tillson said. “Macalah is our Editor this year, and Maddie and Annabelle are my Assistant Editors. They are really helping this class, by helping with interview questions, story ideas and getting stuff done.”
Johnson said she likes keeping people informed and not just in the community.
“It’s exciting to have a newspaper so we can let everyone know what’s going on,” Johnson said. “With the online newspaper we can reach more than just the community.”
