There have been many reboots in television and movies over the past few years, and the reboot bug has hit Bray-Doyle High School. Journalism is back at Bray-Doyle, and teacher Matt Tillson said he is excited to be back at the helm.
“When Mrs. Chambers mentioned to me this summer that we were going to have journalism again, I couldn’t wait,” Tillson said. “As soon as she told me, I started to get the wheels spinning on what we would do this year.”
Tillson said his students will dive into many different types of media throughout the year.
“We are going to start with print, and then, as we get more comfortable with our interviewing and writing stories, we will move into some broadcast journalism,” Tillson said. “I also want to do some podcasting with the students, and some of them have already come up with great show ideas.”
It has been four years since the last journalism class at Bray-Doyle, and Tillson said that is a good thing but also has some challenges.
“I’m starting with a new group this year,” Tillson said. “These kids have been writing in all of their classes but haven’t written news stories. It’s a whole new ball game for them, but every one of them has been excited and worked hard on their interview and writing skills already.”
The journalism class will post stories on their website, www.bddonkeyfeed.com, and eventually videos on YouTube.
