FCCLA Blood drive starts Tuesday

On Tuesday December 10 from 9 A.M. – 3:30 P.M., the Bray-Doyle Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) in the Bray-Doyle High School Library.

FCCLA advisor Vickie Carden said she is looking forward to hosting another blood drive. In the past the FCCLA chapter has held two seperate blood drives in the winter and the spring. This year Carden said she would only be holding one blood drive this year.

`    “The past blood drives we have done over the years have done fairly decent,” Carden said. “We have reached our goal in the past, but our last one we fell just short.”

In order for someone to donate they must meet certain qualifications. To donate whole blood, one must be in good health and feeling well. They must be at least 16 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. To make a Power Red Donation or a two unit donation. Male donors must be at least 17 years old and at least 5’1” tall and weigh at least 130 pounds. Female donors must be at least 19 years old, 5’5” and weight at least 150 pounds. Platelet donors must be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Finally, for someone to give plasma, they must have type AB blood, at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds.
